School Improvement Grants

In California, Attendance Counts has partnered with a broad coalition of organizations to develop guidelines and tools to help schools and districts address chronic absence as they seek to turn around underperforming schools through the school improvement grant programs. A key premise is that before schools can improve academic achievement, they must ensure that students are attending school in the first place. We are sharing these guidelines on this website because we believe schools and districts throughout the country may find them useful for their efforts to raise the level of academic performance in struggling schools.
